The best Champagne producers are inevitably those with the longest and most colourful histories. Mumm are no exception to this rule. Beginning in 1882, they have seen the highs and lows and learnt from their mistakes.
This bottle, the Mumm Blanc de Blancs, was originally created as a gift for close friends and associates of the House, yet in the last few years it has become increasingly more available to the rest of the world as well. A rare Cuvee, here is a bottle which can be found only in limited quantities.
Originating from the prestigious Côte des Blancs region of France, it is a Champagne made purely from Chardonnay – a bottle very much with its own character and unique take on this extra special drink. So, how do you tell a Mumm Blanc de Blancs apart from other bottles of similar vintage? Well, you begin with the dress: if it is pure and bright with a surprising green sheen, then you are probably in luck.
If very fine bubbles are also present then chances are you have stumbled upon a very good thing! The nose of the Blanc de Blancs Mumm is rich in white flowers and lemon, as well as fruit. In the mouth you'll be welcomed by an attack that is endearingly subtle, set against the backdrop of a beautifully chalky frame. Other words to describe this drink?
How about spicy and smooth, because that's exactly what you'll find when it comes to texture. The finish, too, is highly expressive and very rich – which should be just the thing. An ideal aperitif, this Champagne is the perfect accompaniment to seafood such as oysters and even lobster.
