Picture a slightly vinous Champagne that will be the talk of a cocktail party, or pondered long and hard as an after-dinner aperitif. Now consider a vintage assembly of up to 90% Pinot Black – fruity and firm in structure – made even more alluring by 3% Pinot Meunier and 7% Chardonnay. With flexibility offered by the Meunier and freshness gifted by the Chardonnay, the Drappier Carte d'Or is precisely this and so much more.
3 years of ageing in the finest cellars of the House completes the attraction to this unique wine, and a final tasting session ensures that before it can be enjoyed all over the world, the quality is strictly controlled at every step of the way. Golden in colour and with its elegant nose, notes of red berries and strawberries are the key elements here.
When these aromas give way it's all for the better, as what soon arrives is aromas of pastry sweet tooth – exciting and diverse indeed. And the palate matches the previous quality easily. The Gold Card Drappier – as it is known – powers forward with an attack of sharp virtue, and hints of ripe and dried fruit accompanied by spicy hints that don't overpower.
On the finish there is only quality to be found here. Fullness and elegance mingling together in the end to make sure the Drappier Carte d'Or stays one to remember.
