Mareuil-sur-Ay is the place, nestled deep in France in the most beloved place where all bubbly comes from: the Champagne Region. 1818 is the year, and the two people responsible for the beginning of this force in Champagne production are none other than Nicolas François Billecart Salmon and the lovely Elizabeth.
Hundreds of years later, after much could have got in the way to steer this remarkable House in a number of different and less satisfying directions, the ethos of the House remains amazingly unchanged from its early beginnings. Seven generations on, the quality is still as superb as the day it was mastered, and at the core of this obsession is a desire to find the very best from every single grape that is produced on those extra special soils.
Operating on an expanse of land that is just the same now as many years ago, the House of Billecart-Salmon proudly harness the magic of thirty hectares of land. As many as 30 or more wines are lovingly garnered from here, and the majority of the grapes hail from close to Epernay...an area boasting a history of excellence that we believe more than speaks for itself.
But most importantly of all, when one considers Billecart-Salmon, one must remember the facts of the matter: namely that this House is one of those very rare things...a House still to this day owned by the original family, ever since its inception in 1818.
Meticulous about the fine details, Rosé and Brut Reserve are two of the signature Champagnes which this richly historic House are famous for making with mature, un-hurried excellence.
