Boizel – know your champagne and you'll be familiar with this brand's intriguing story and rich passion for champagne. Five generations of history and 175 years, to be exact, with knowledge passed down from father to daughter, along with the help of a son.
1834 was the year this house was founded, and it was Auguste Boizel who, at age 33, set history on its path to success. Part of an enthusiastic husband-and-wife team, Auguste worked alongside his wife Julie, blending the very first grand cuvées and selling many bottles in France, before the brand went international.
The story doesn't stop there of course! Like all good champagne brand history's, there is so much more to be said. There's not enough space here to say it all, of course, but the main points are these: the couple's son Edouard was the man who made exporting to England possible (marketing the first true dry champagnes). Jules was next in turn to make his mark on the brand by shipping the house's fabulous Blanc de Blancs to Australia. Later, in 1961, it was René who developed the first special cuvées. Finally, to end this segment of rich happenings, daughter Evelyne took charge. Together with her husband Christophe, they continue today to make sure that Boizel champagne is known as one of the best!
1994 proved to be a pivotal year for this champagne brand. Joining with Bruno Paillard and working with Philip Baijot, the Boizel Chanoine Champagne group was formed (more commonly known as the BCC).
In the present day, you'll struggle to locate Boizel Champagne in both supermarkets and more specialist wine stores. The reason? Boizel employs a different tactic: mailorder via the French market and with assistance from merchants abroad to spread the brand name international. Or you could just buy from us...
